Exercise Diamond Run 2017
Brisbane’s 7th Brigade conducted live fire exercises with its newly acquired M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks for the very first time during Exercise Diamond Run at Shoalwater Bay Training Area (SWBTA). 7th Brigade received five Tanks in September and were set to receive up to nine more the following year. The incorporation of Tanks into 7th Brigade was an important milestone for the Australian Army as it represented "the final component of Plan Beersheba and the realisation of the final Armoured Calvary Regiment in Brisbane".
Exercise Diamond Run was 7th Brigade’s largest exercise of the year and aimed to evaluate the foundation warfighting skills of its soldiers before becoming the Australian Army’s Ready Brigade in 2018. Over 1600 soldiers took part in the exercise which ran from 14 October to 8 November.
